Freeman Butts was a prolific Montana abstract artist, first recognized for his striking depictions of expansive Western skies in Disney movies before moving to his beloved Big Sky Country. His backyard sketches and coffee table doodles are lesser known, and featured.
His son, Bob Butts, was a longtime DJ at KGLT-FM from the mid-1990s through the late 2010s. He was known for his eclectic programming, including all-Frank Zappa shows and deeply educational, much-loved blues broadcasts that became a staple of the station.
The Freeman Butts Estate has been a generous and longtime supporter of KGLT-FM, donating artwork over the years to help sustain and celebrate independent public radio.
